XXX- Learner Support Services are available to everyone - We promote inclusive education - to ensure students’ learning needs are met at either end of the achievement scale - Our Services include:
XX1. Assessments - we conduct:
XXX - Reading assessments
XXX - Numeracy assessments
XXX - Spelling and writing assessments
We do this to identify students’ learning needs and to monitor their individual progress.
XX2. Individual Education Plans - We develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for a variety reasons:
XXX- Specific learning difficulties
XXX- Physical disabilities
XXX- Or the student may have other difficulties e.g. in the area of organisation, relationships, or handling being at school in general.
We always develop IEPs in consultation with families/caregivers, subject teachers and the student as applicable. We also liaise with support providers such as GSE (Group Special Education), RTLBs (Resource Teachers for Learning and Behaviour), physiotherapists, occupational therapists and counsellors - as necessary and applicable.
XX3. Transition Programmes
XX- Transition between schools. Some students may find the change from intermediate or primary school to College rather daunting and they XXmay feel apprehensive about the move. We invite parents and caregivers to meet with us and express their concerns. We will then design XXand implement a transition plan to ensure your child feels safe and develops confidence while settling in. This plan can be initiated and put XXin place during the year while your child is still enrolled at primary or intermediate school.
XX- Transition from school to other training agencies or to employment or supported employment. Learner Support liaises closely with the XXXXCareers Department, guidance, parents and other agencies to ensure your children’s needs are met so they can fulfil their ambitions. XXXFrom Y 11 onwards we plan IEPs around the student’s transition to adult life. With focus on life skills, such as handling money, filling in XXXforms, using public transport, using the gym, shopping, budgeting, work experience (Y 12/13),
XX4. Teacher Aide Support in the Classroom
XXXWe provide Teacher Aide Support in class-rooms to ensure that students receive the help they need and to ensure that they are included XXXin the class programmes. Although specific students may be targeted, the Teacher Aides make sure that individuals are not singled out XXXand provide support to other students as well as the targeted ones.
XXXThe Teacher aide makes sure that student understands what she/he is supposed to do and assists with the completion of set tasks as XXXnecessary. At times they may adapt the work so the student can access and complete the tasks more easily or they act as a scribe for the XXXstudent.
