Wood Work

This subject allows students the opportunity to work with wood substances, starting with a plan, and then advancing onto a finished product. Students will most frequently pursue practical tasks, but occasional paperwork is included. (Tasks depend on year. See 'Year Specific Outline' below).

Year Specific Outline

Year 9 - 9MTW

Workshop practise. Wood projects. Freehand sketching. Design drawing. Safety skills.

Year 10 - 10MTW

This full year course prepares students for entry into Level One technology. Students will learn about all aspects of the technological process developing a range of theoretical, design and practical skills. These skills will enchance student understanding of safety, design, material properties, use of hand tools and machinery and workshop techniques.

Year 11 - MTW1

This course consists of two individual projects running throughout the year. Students will develop their understanding of the technological process, as they develop their theoretical, design and practical skills. They will have the opportunity to design and construct two products of high quality to submit for their unit standards this year.

Year 12 - CAR2

This is a BCITO approved course, consisting of a range of practical assignments running through the year. Students will continue to develop their understanding of the technological process. They will also continue to study workshop safety, material properties, tool and machinery use and workshop techniques. They will also develop and apply a range of material techniques and processes, design principles and design drawing.
