Metal Work
This subject allows students the opportunity to work with metal substances, starting with a plan, and then advancing onto a finished product. Students will most frequently pursue practical tasks, but occasional paperwork is included. (Tasks depend on year. See 'Year Specific Outline' below).
Year Specific Outline
Year 9 - 9MTM
Year 9 entrants will be involved in workshop practise, metal projects, freehand sketching, design drawing and safety skills.
Year 10 - 10MTM
This full year course prepares students for entry into Level One Engineering. Students will learn about all aspects of the technological process developing a range of theoretical, design and practical skills. These skills will enhance student understanding of safety, design, material properties, use of hand tools and machinery and workshop techniques.
Year 11 - EGR1
This course consists of two individual projects running throughout the year. Students will develop their understanding of the technological process, as they develop their theoretical, design and practical skills. They will have the opportunity to design and construct two products of high quality to submit for their unit standards this year. They will also gain additional unit standards will assignments on tools and equipment used in engineering.
Year 12 - EGR2
This course consists of two individual projects running throughout the year. Students will furtther develop the theoretical, design and practical skills. They will build on and develop techniques and familiarity with equipment used in an engineering workshop. |
