The Role of RTLB
… is to look at the student/’s needs and how these can best be met within the classroom, playground and/or school environment.
By environment we mean all things in the classroom and/or school that impact in some way on the student.
These may include:
- Other students
- Resources
- Teaching method
- Classroom climate
- Seating arrangements
- Grouping
- Timetabling
- Location of classes
- Planning
We know the classroom teachers are the main creators of the learning environment.
Sometimes it may be necessary to make adjustments to the students’ exiting environment in order to better meet his/her/their learning needs.
Together the student’s ‘whanau of interest’, including teacher/s, RTLB and often whanau members, will explore suitable strategies and decide on a plan of action.
Our role as RTLB is to support classroom teachers with and adjustments that we believe will work to make a difference for the student/s.
Teachers may request assistance from our service for themselves for help with individual and/or groups of student or for support with whole class projects.
Schools may request RTLB assistance for school-wide initiatives where the support is aimed at addressing learning and/or behaviour needs of targeted students.
