Malaga - The Journey. Aotea Dance Academy and Music Department Tour de Force

Dance Department

Welcome to Dance at Aotea College. The department offers a wide range of learning for students at all levels (years 9-13).

The Dance course at Aotea College is known to students as Family Academy simply because thats what it is, a family. It is a place students can be themsleves without the fear of being judged by other students. But this course is not just about fun and laughs , it constantly tests students abilities in the field of dance and in some cases song.

Student Testimonials

Academy has helped me to build my confidence in many different ways for example: We all get the opportunity to lead each other in the Academy for specific tasks. It has only been 7 weeks and the Academy has made a positive affect in my life. The Family Academy has high expectations in our learning and everyone enjoys each others company. The family connection is an important key of success.

In the past 3 years at Aotea College, it has been a difficult and challenging journey. I have found it hard to respect my teachers; I struggled to wear the correct school uniform and wagged school almost everyday. But ever since Family Academy, I’ve never missed a class this year. The Family Academy has helped me to focus and enjoy my learning in school. Now, I am even usually in correct school uniform.

The Academy is not only a class, but a family. We are united as one and here to learn. The Family Academy has a lot of fun and the work is a challenge for each individual. I am more focused and I am a lot more motivated. I enjoy learning to be successful and to deliver in excellence at all times. The Family Academy teaches each person the life skills for surviving in the real world.

Coming late, wagging classes and being a smart mouth seem to be a habit everyday. I got to the end of 2009 and achieved nothing academically. It was such a let down for myself and my parents. Seeing the look on my parents’ faces made me realise I had to change for the better. Being in Academy has changed me a lot. I attend school on time and I never ditch any of my classes. I want to achieve well in all of my subjects so I can have more options to choose from when I leave school. The Family Academy is more than your usual classroom learning. It’s a place where you can be yourself and not be judged while you are on our own personal journey.
