Gateway Role Models

Sam Henare: Is one of the Aotea College Gateway Programme'sreal success stories. In 2008, Sam was Aotea College Head Boy and was Captain of the 1st X1 Football Team. His Gateway Placement was with an electrical company and he was one of the few students in New Zealand to be awarded an Electro-Technology Certificate that year. He gained an electrical apprenticeship with Elite Door Services in November 2008.

 

Jezrae Te Runa-Morehu:In 2009, Jezrae experienced a wide range of activities relating to various facets of Police Training during her placement at the Royal New Zealand Police College. Jezrae was captain of the Aotea Premier Netball Team, House Leader for Mohua and she was one of the most active girls in the wider Aotea College Community. Jezrae wants to become a police officer and with her journey through the Gateway Programme, she gained experience with the business side of the Police Force and got to see first hand, in her own words "the tiring and hard work involved in police training”.

 

Anna Hermansson: In 2010, Anna was placed at Rangikura School and got a good look at what it takes to be at the coal face of primary education. Anna is a netballer, a swimmer and was a member of the Aotea Girls Triathlon team, along with Gaby Peach and Megan McGillivray, who won the Wellington Regional Senior Championship earlier this year. Anna is a House Leader and was one of the organisers of the Senior Formal. She is looking to go on to university in 2011 to further her studies in education.
