What is Gateway?
Gateway offers an individual learning programme for senior students at Aotea College. It is a school subject that allows senior students to take a day out of school each week where they choose an industry that they would like to be involved in. Whilst on their Gateway placement, students have the opportunity to learn new skills and gain great work experience. Gateway doesn’t cost the student anything as it is funded by the Tertiary Education Commission.
Gateway aims to give senior secondary students the opportunity to combine work and studies in ways that help them meet the challenges and demands of the real world today. Gateway also aims to bring schools and communities closer through partnerships focused on education and meeting employee and employer needs, along with ensuring the New Zealand economy is strong and supported by young people with the right skills and knowledge.
